2011/2012 :

For this time, your host is called Simon, volunteer in different activities in the Feijenoord area. Healing birds in Afrikaanderplein, playing football in the Pepperklip, building garden boxes for the Oranjeboomtuin are my daily life and I hope it helps to bring a good dynamic in Feijenoord.
The few last years, I was a student in Rennes and Cergy (France) in Town planning and Urbanism, that’s why this blog is a good opportunity to share my interests in public spaces, modern landscapes and the nowadays urbanity. And obviously, Rotterdam is just the perfect place to experience and study these research fields !
2011 :

Hoi…my name is Sophie and I’m one of the EVS volunteers working at Trattoria Borgo d’Aneto in Rotterdam.
Actually I wanted to start studying psychology after finishing secondary school in Cologne, but now I’m sure that taking a gap year was one of the best ideas I had lately. It’s hard to put into just a few sentences what I have been doing during the last months…working in a great international team, baking a countless amount of pancakes at a street festival, meeting people from all over Europe, learning dutch, dissecting a pig, getting to know the dutch school system and the dutch way of life are just a few things that come to my mind now.
After 8 months full of different experiences, I feel prepared to hit the books again.
I started writing this blog because I wanted to transform my interest in architecture into something durable that can also be used by other people…and I really hope that the following volunteers will use it to present something about their life in Rotterdam!!

EVS
This blog is made by volunteers who do their EVS (European Voluntary Service) in Rotterdam and are hosted by Lava Legato Foundation. EVS is a programme that is set up by the European Commission. It enables young people between 16 and 30 to live and work in a member country of the EU for 6 to 12 months. If you want to learn more about EVS, check http://ec.europa.eu/youth/youth-in-action-programme/doc82_en.htm
